Western New York has some truly breathtaking hotels that are just as impressive on the outside as they are on the inside. Curtiss Hotel, Hotel Lafayette, The Mansion on Delaware, The Roycroft and other well-known spots are great places to stay. But there are a number of lesser-known bed & breakfasts, inns, and hotels that you might not have heard of that are certainly worth checking out. These bright, charismatic mansions are good for the soul – and your Insta.

1. Parkside House Bed & Breakfast
462 Woodward Ave., Buffalo, NY 14214 / (716) 480-9507 / More Info
This bright yellow bed and breakfast is located in the Parkside Historical District and is just a quick walk from locations like the Frank Lloyd Wright’s Martin House Complex, the Buffalo Zoo, Delaware Park, and Buffalo’s biggest art galleries. The rooms, named after streets in the neighborhood, have character and the amenities you simply can’t live without. I’m not talking food and water… plasma TV and wifi. Duh. Not to mention some seriously beautiful views of the surrounding homes.

2. InnBuffalo
619 Lafayette Ave, Buffalo, NY 14222 / (716) 867-7777 / More Info
The victorian 1898 Hewitt Mansion is located right in the heart of the Elmwood Village, set back just enough for privacy because sometimes you just don’t want to talk to people (amiright?), but walking distance from all of the shops, bars, and restaurants. Take your time exploring the historic home and enjoy a freshly cooked breakfast the next day in the dining room with homemade scones, parfaits, and more.

3. Oscar’s Inn
288 Linwood Ave, Buffalo, NY 14209 / (716) 381-8605 / More Info
Oscar’s Bed and Breakfast is a beautiful 3 story building complete with a library, common rooms, a spacious front porch, and even suites that incorporate art created by Buffalo artists. Oscar S. Lang is the architect and contractor behind the 2nd empire style house and now the bed and breakfast is the perfect getaway for the art obsessed Buffalonian. They have great amenities like parking (thank you, Jesus) for one car, air conditioning, wifi, cable, and flat screen TV, a full breakfast, and more.

4. Elmwood Village Inn
Temporarily Closed
893 Elmwood Ave, Buffalo, NY 14222 / (716) 886-2397 / elmwoodvillageinn.com
The Elmwood Village Inn makes for a fun getaway without really… well… going away. You’ll be right near the local farmers market during the summer months – which means you’re close to picking up some fresh produce and enjoying live entertainment. Besides being in a great location, the beautifully decorated inn is stocked with fresh baked treats, breads, fruits, and more each morning and they displayed original artwork throughout the different rooms.

5. Hart House Hotel
113 W Center St, Medina, NY 14103 / (585) 735-6031 / More Info
Medina, in our opinion, doesn’t get enough buzz. The little area is beyond cute, and is home to a European inspired hotel in the historic district near the Niagara wine trail. The stunning rooms are modern, chic, and totally Instagram-able with everything from exposed brick and distressed wood ladders, to pops of color pillows and peach love seats. Take a moment to let it sink in that on top of the usual amenities, you get an onsite espresso and juice bar, breakfast at Shirt Factory Cafe, and an in-house winery at 810 Meadworks. You’ll also be near an excellent Mexican restaurant, Mariachi De Oro, so load up on that guac and mole negro people and really enjoy that staycation.
